I used one its very slow machine on the deeper coins, every time I miss the
target digging the hole, you really need a big shovel to make bigger holes,
and a pinpointer to speed up the case but... it works and its'a very easy
and lightweight machine to use.

Discovery 2200 metal detector

I used this detector some time ago and it really killed those deep ooins. I
recently ordered one for my grandson that seems to have a real interest in
the hobby. He bought a cheap one that does a fairly good job for the price,
but I don't want him to become discouraged. I have bought some pricier
detectors since then and I really don't see much difference with the
exception of the pinpointer on the detector.
I once dug out a Franklin half at the depth of about 7 inches with the 2200. If my grandson doesn't use it that much, I will. It is lightweight and does the job. I bought all those more expensive detectors hoping to find more gold and silver, but they basically do the same job as the 2200.

Bh discovery 2200 what you can expect

The BH Discovery 2200 is an all-purpose detector with it's 180 Disc. The
auto ground balance allows me silent search in all the soils I've
encountered, including rocky and wet or dry sand ocean beaches, even at
max. sensitivity. But it does not deal well with sea water.
Discrimination mode is effective, but at the expense of 1-2 in. of depth. A tiny children's 10K ring is detected by air test at 2.25 in. In All Metal mode with max. Sensitivity, but not at all in Disc. Mode. A large men's 10K ring is detected at 9.5 in., but at 7.5 in. in Disc. mode. Silver dimes are at 6.75 in. and silver quarters at 7.5 in. Loonies and toonies are detected at 8 in. A flat piece of oxidized copper measuring 1x4 is detected at 12 in. And of interest to relic hunters, a 5 lb. Dumbbell weight at 16 in. The numbers are similar in the field.
I have found tiny jewellery around 3-4 in. The Visual Depth display is accurate for quarter-size objects, but shows 2x higher for small objects and 1/2x for large objects. All deep objects regardless of metal give an inconsistent Target I.D./Tone. Silver quarters give a consistent Tone around 6 in. And other coins in the 4-5 in. Range. Oxidized iron always gives me an erratic I.D./Tone.
I enjoy the light weight and simple one hand thumb-touch control, freeing the other hand to use the digging tool. I have had no issues in changing the batteries, as some reviewers have commented. I usually get well over the advertised 10 hrs. battery life using the BH headphones. With a waterproof and exchangeable coil, good depth and all the Disc. features I haven't been looking for another MD. Unless I focused on tiny gold.

Pretty decent detector

I have had mine for maybe 10yrs now and every time I go out I come back
with a pocket full of wheat pennies and newer pennies, dimes, and quarters.
Ground is really rocky in some spots, and extremely heavy topsoil in yards.
Coin depth really varies based on year and weight of coin. Dimes are
usually 3in down, while same year quarters are deeper... Wheats are right
around 5-6in.
Found 1961 penny at 7in...Not sure how that happened. Overall good at finding metal in the ground but not sure if I am getting everything. Real lack of silver in my pocket for some reason. No gold b/c I notch out iron, don't feel like digging every square foot. A lot of garbage and iron ore in the ground in central PA.
Oldest found coin was a 1916 wheat. I would rate this as a great starter but I am going to sell and move up. If I am going to put more time into detecting then I am going to pay up to $1,000. All comes down to how much you want to spend!!!!!

The manual says the 2200 will detect a quarter 7 inches deep. It will, but
it drops from a high tone to a mid, zinc penny, tone past 5.5 inches, a
copper penny or dime drops a tone past 4.75 inches and nickels drop a tone
just past three inches deep. It also has a slow recovery speed, the build
quality isn't as good as it should be, it's weak on nickels and if iron is
rejected it won't detect small gold rings.
Having said the above, it does well for hunting pennies, dimes and quarters from surface to four inches deep and pinpoints well considering it doesn't have a pinpoint mode.

Good bang for buck

This machine is great for the money. It has very good depth and OK ID but
its not the greatest with good targets next to trash, it definitely gonna
pick up what the coil crosses first and if there is targets under iron if
you got iron disc out you're gonna miss the good target. Having said that in reality I've found quite a bit with it, I just dig everything. If I want to cherry pick I will cross every signal in several directions, if I get a good tone even in only one direction I dig.
For the money you cant beat it. Would be nice to have gb adjust though.

My husband has had a metal detector for years. He bought a Discovery 2200
for me at an auction estate sale. I went scoping with him last week and
found $1. 27 in coins and a braclet (cheap) in about 2 hours. This was the
first time I ever metal detected and was very happy. I love my Discovery
2200.
