Better the second time !

I can't really explain why I sold my last DetectorPro Pistol Probe, it might have just been here more hype about some to the other top sellers. Or because I like to keep checking out the new stuff. But no matter why I did I have to say I came back to the DetectorPro.

The Pro's: It can be adjusted to fit every situation I've been in and ALL the others (except the TreasureMate) can't do that. And it's the deeper pinpointer (minus the TreasureMate). I say that because I've been there with all the others and let's see them pick up a quarter at 5.5 to 6 inches! And I don't need to slide a nickle to supertune it, I just set it and forget it. And if it de-tunes a bit it still is a deeper beeper than the competition.

The Cons: Actually zero. Some say it's to big and it's not considering the size of the trowels they carry! And others say it looks to much like a gun... Well to those I say pick up a can of floresent paint and paint it... A GREAT TOOL! Joe

I found this to be one of the best tools for detecting. Company back up their products 100 percent, deeper than others I have tried and would recommend this product. Soil condition damp clay 5 to 6 inches, warm 70 degrees summer.

A must have!

What a great tool! This is the first pinpointer I've owned so I cant make comparisons with other products, but the Pistol Probe is an outstanding instrument. Im new to detecting and owning this pinpointer has been a huge moral booster! A must have!

Pistol Probe (Detector Pro)

December 26, 2011
I bought this with a snapped barrel for next to nothing. I've heard this is a weak spot but don't know this for sure. A simple repair with some epoxy putty and it's the most useful MDing accessory ever. As Gary in Michigan says, most targets can be pinpointed before digging even if you have a deep-seeking machine. This probe can go deeper than some detectors.

I like the fact that it's self-contained, rather then being joined to a control unit by a cable. In a funny way I like the fact that it resembles a pistol. Some have said that soil gets under the little hatch that houses the controls, but I haven't found this.

The green led is horribly bright so I covered it in epoxy. The button is on the stiff side and I'd prefer a non-motion pinpointer, personally.

But these are quibbles cos the Pistol Probe is really good. It's two or maybe three times more useful than a basic probe. If I lost mine I would probably replace it with a new one - which, for me, is saying something.

A great tool!

I got a good deal on the probe so I just had to try it. I am not used to using a probe, so during my first trip in the woods it got barely used. But I noticed that the range is really great.

The real testing came at a salt water beach. First, in the dry sand. After pinpointing the target with my trusty DD coil, I use a small hoe to dig some 5-6 inches hole in a few seconds. Then I take the Pistol Probe and scan the pile and the hole. Repeat two or three times and there is your target.

Very effective, with a little training as fast as using a scoop. One thing I have noticed - the probe is not very sensitive to aluminium plated paper (chewgum paper, tetra pak pieces, etc.) I could find with my Silver uMax (and a 12x10 SEF coil). I could find some very tiny pieces of aluminium from coke cans (balls of 2-4 mm diameter). Any of those could be a golden earring:)

The pinpointer makes digging in the wet sand possible. Most of VLF machines sound of on a hole dug in the really wet sand at the edge of water even when it is empty. The detector can recognize the target, but after opening the hole it just beeps all the time.

There comes the PP - it is not affected by the salty water and the target can be located either in the hole or in the pile quite easily. I was doing the wet sand only for a limited time, but I have recovered again some pieces of "melted" aluminium, some very small, and a few coins. Not bad at all:)

There are a few minor design issues, that is why I give 4 stars only. If it was fully submersible, had vibration alarm and used only one 9V battery, it would get 5 (or maybe even 6:) stars.

I have never used the ProPointer by Garrett, but from the videos I can tell that the Pistol Probe suits my hunting style better - especially the PI motion-based circuit, great depth and comfortable shape.

Goes deep.

Very sensitive. I like the volume control. Turn it down for quiet areas or crank it up for heavy car traffic areas. I also use in silent mode sometimes looking at the flashing led which is cool. Another reason I love this pinpointer is since it has good depth it can be used to pinpoint before digging, which is awesome.
Goes 4 to 6 inches and you are hitting the spot dead on within one square inch.! One thing I should mention is that it is a pulsating pinpointer so you have to use small side to side motion to get best results.

Once you feel how to use it, the depth is great advantage. It can get tricky if what your digging up is on the side of hole though. Just try pinpointing with your detector or the pointer itself before digging. I love it, you can do a lot with it.
